Publisher: S. Karger Publishers (USA) | ISBN: 3805566379 | edition 1998 | PDF | 227 pages | 3,95 mb

Our interest in stereotactic radiosurgery began in the late 1970s after recognition of the unique potential of combining surgical guiding devices with the newly developed CT imaging. This interest was further enhanced by the senior editor’s experience in Sweden in 1979 and 1980 where image-guided neurosurgery, functional neurosurgery and indeed stereotactic radiosurgery with the Gamma knife was flourishing. Image-guided brain surgery started at the University of Pittsburgh in 1981. The first North American 201 Cobalt-60 source Gamma knife was installed in 1987. Ten years have now passed. During this time, there has been an explosion in the local, regional, national and international interest in stereotactic radiosurgery.
