Java Swing, Second Edition

Java Swing, Second Edition
O'Reilly Media, Inc.; 2 edition | ISBN: 0596004087 | 1280 pages | November 1, 2002 | CHM | 6 Mb

Swing is a fully-featured user interface development kit for Java applications. Building on the foundations of the Abstract Window Toolkit (AWT), Swing enables cross-platform applications to use any of several pluggable look-and-feels. Swing developers can take advantage of its rich, flexible features and modular components, building elegant user interfaces with very little code. This second edition of Java Swing thoroughly covers all the features available in Java 2 SDK 1.3 and 1.4. More than simply a reference, this new edition takes a practical approach. It is a book by developers for developers, with hundreds of useful examples, from beginning level to advanced, covering every component available in Swing. All these features mean that there's a lot to learn. Even setting aside its platform flexibility, Swing compares favorably with any widely available user interface toolkit--it has great depth. Swing makes it easy to do simple things but is powerful enough to create complex, intricate interfaces. Java Swing, 2nd edition includes:
* A new chapter on Drag and Drop
* Accessibility features for creating a user interface meeting the needs of all users
* Coverage of the improved key binding infrastructure introduced in SDK 1.3
* A new chapter on JFormattedTextField and input validation
* Mac OS X coverage and examples
* Coverage of the improved focus system introduced in SDK 1.4
* Pluggable Look-and-Feel coverage
* Coverage of the new layout manager, SpringLayout, from SDK 1.4
* Properties tables that summarize important features of each component
* Coverage of the 1.4 Spinner component
* Details about using HTML in components
* A new appendix listing bound actions for each component
* A supporting web site with utilities, examples, and supplemental materials

Brain Mapping: The Systems by Arthur W. Toga and John C. Mazziotta
Publisher: Academic Press | 24 May 2000 | ISBN: 0126925453 | Pages: 654 | PDF | 86 MB

Brain mapping has forever altered and extended our understanding of the systems of the brain. The integrative capacity of brain maps enables the inclusion of a diverse array of observations and experimental results. Maps are used to describe brain structure, function, and connectivity, to catalog the ever-expanding knowledge base of human and animal nervous systems, to compare healthy tissue with diseased tissue, and to show detailed subsystems and circuits. Brain Mapping: The Systems is a compilation of the current research and developments in brain mapping. This book, the second in a series, provides an encyclopedic survey of brain maps characterizing the specific systems of the brain. It is a natural companion to Brain Mapping: The Methods because it describes the use of these techniques to create maps of the normal brain. It is an essential resource for all scientists, clinicians, and students interested in brain mapping.

Key Features
* Brings together the latest developments in brain mapping in one volume
* Provides a detailed and chronological perspective of the field
* Progresses from descriptions of underlying anatomic framework for mapping primary functional systems to more complex cognitive and emotional behaviors
* Includes numerous full-color illustrations for comparing and contrasting brain structure and function
* Allows for the integration of disparate information about the brain

Database Design Using Entity-Relationship Diagrams (Foundations of Database Design, 1)

Database Design Using Entity-Relationship Diagrams (Foundations of Database Design, 1)
TF-ARBCH | ISBN: 0849315484 | 264 pages | June 27, 2003 | PDF | 3 Mb

Entity-relationship (E-R) diagrams are time-tested models for database development well-known for their usefulness in mapping out clear database designs. Also commonly known is how difficult it is to master them. With this comprehensive guide, database designers and developers can quickly learn all the ins and outs of E-R diagramming to become expert database designers. Because E-R diagrams are so fundamental to database design, this book is also an indispensable text for teaching computer science students the basics of database development. Database Design Using Entity-Relationship Diagrams clarifies E-R diagramming by defining it in terms of requirements (end user requests) and specifications (designer feedback to those requests). The book explains how open communication between designers and end users is critical to developing usable, easy-to-understand E-R diagrams that model both requirements and specifications. The authors explain, in an intuitive, informal manner, how to develop an E-R diagram, how to map it to a database, and how the resulting database can be tested. This definitive guide is a basic component for any database course, and is also an invaluable reference that database professionals can use throughout their careers.

Artificial Intelligence: A Systems Approach

M. Tim Jones, "Artificial Intelligence: A Systems Approach "
Chapman | 2007 | ISBN: 0977858235 | 500 pages | PDF | 6,5 MB

This book offers students and AI programmers a new perspective on the study of artificial intelligence concepts. The essential topics and theory of AI are presented, but it also includes practical information on data input & reduction as well as data output (i.e., algorithm usage). Because traditional AI concepts such as pattern recognition, numerical optimization and data mining are now simply types of algorithms, a different approach is needed. This sensor / algorithm / effecter approach grounds the algorithms with an environment, helps students and AI practitioners to better understand them, and subsequently, how to apply them. The book has numerous up to date applications in game programming, intelligent agents, neural networks, artificial immune systems, and more.

Webster's New World Telecom Dictionary

Ray Horak, "Webster's New World Telecom Dictionary"
Webster's New World | 2007 | ISBN: 047177457X | 568 pages | PDF | 3,7 MB

Although the book is an excellent technical dictionary, Horak‘s plain-English, commonsense style yields definitions that are as thoroughly understandable to the business professional or student as they are to the electrical engineer. It is thoroughly researched, highly objective, absolutely accurate and includes just about every essential term, phrase, abbreviation, acronym, backronym, contraction, initialism and portmanteau you might encounter in the telecom and datacom domains. Database Developer's Guide With Visual C++ 4.0, 2nd Edition

Database Developer's Guide With Visual C++ 4.0, 2nd Edition,
Peter D. Hipson, Roger Jennings | Sams Publishing | 1996-04-01 | ISBN: 0672309130 | Pages:1104 | PDF | 11.90MB

There is no concrete example in this book! Only a few which is either generated by AppWizard or copied from the samples come with Visual C++ 5.0. You cannot get any idea how to develop robust DB front-end applications after reading it. Maybe you can use it for reference for some ODBC and DAO classes.
This book is supposed to be designed for an advance developer. Well, my opinion is that this is not designed for a developer but for somebody who has a management and non-technical background who just want to read something about Visual C++ Development. Most of the code in this book were created by just using the appwizard of the Visual C++ package. Anybody can do that! If you know Visual C++ software development and read this book, you will probably doubt if the authors really know Visual C++ and MFC programming. Perhaps the authors are expert in their own field but this book is poorly organized and I guess haphazardly written. I do not recommend this book unless you have nothing else to do.
